At Apptamin we’ve been producing many videos for the app stores. If done right, they are a great way to quickly show what your app is about.
It started with the Google Play Store. A couple of years later, Apple introduced their “App Preview” format for the iOS App Store (and now also for tvOS/Apple TV).
And that has been bringing quite a lot of confusion.
Because even though the end goal of an App Preview and a Play Store video are very similar (improve conversion on the app listing and get more engaged users), their formats and constraints are very different.
Even when discussing with some mobile marketing savvy clients or partners, we often need to explain those differences. Including the “big black bars syndrome” and why we strongly advise against using your iOS App Preview on the Google Play Store. Especially for apps in portrait mode.
Another big one is the fact that you can’t localize an App Preview video, whereas it is strongly suggested to localize your Play Store video.
And to help you do that, we’ve created the handy Cheat Sheet below (pdf version HERE).
