ASO cheat sheets for iOS and Android

Updated: September 23, 2016

When I started paying close attention to SEO several years ago, I discovered a great resource on Moz called The Web Developer’s SEO Cheat Sheet. Ever since, I checked it each time I was building a website and have shared it with many people that are just getting starting with SEO.

App Store Optimization is less complex (and probably has more mysteries) than Search Engine Optimization, but we thought it could be useful to group together all the key points regarding the optimization of an app store details page.

Our goal is to give you an up-to-date, one-page sheet that you can print or keep handy on your computer, so you can reference it any time you need to optimize your app. Since some aspects of optimization are considerably different between the Apple App Store and the Google Play App Store, we have created two separate cheat sheets.

If you need more details on each individual topic, we have also provided a link to what we feel is the best article on the topic. Yes, many of them are our articles.

But a good portion are not.

We simply want to provide the best ASO reference resource.

Here is a quick look at what you will get in each guide…

More about App Store Optimization (ASO)

  1. Hi Sylvain!

You provided a wonderful information on ASO in the form of amazing cheet sheet but I have a doubt and I hope you will be able to help me. Actually I am seeking the complete parameters apart from the
    Keywords
    Description
    Icon
    Updates
    Screenshots
    Ratings
    Preview Video.

So that I can include it in my App analysis report. Your guidance will be highly appreciated .

    1. Hi Aditya – not sure I understand your question. Could you detail what you’re looking for? “App name” seems to be missing from your list.

  2. hi Sylvain:
I have a doubt in app store; When my application in the search box to search application name,i find this without suggestion. it’s very important in CHINA,possibly our customers think there are no app in app store.
so did you know how to restore the suggestion.

    1. Hi Joey – just to make sure I understand, what you’re saying is that when you do a search for the name of your app on the Chinese App Store it does not return any result? Or are you referring to the fact that when you’re typing the name of your app in the search field there is no suggestion by the app store (like when you type “tv” and the App Store suggests different searches like “tv remote”, “tv guide”, etc.)?

  3. This cheat sheet is really one of the best app store optimization resources around.

And keeping it up-to-date is really hard work!

Thanks for the awesome cheat sheet Sylvain!

  4. Pretty useful, thanks. For the icon design, something that can be done is to add borders so it shows well on all kind of backgrounds.
